Wildlife Food Fund - Help feed wildlife in care

WIRES is calling for help to feed the large number of juvenile native animals that have been recently rescued and is inviting native animals lovers from across NSW to give to the WIRES Food Fund.

WIRES CEO Leanne Taylor said that from now and right through Summer, WIRES volunteers will be feeding hundreds of hungry young native birds and animals to ensure their survival - and the rescue and assistance calls from the public just keep on coming.

“Our dedicated volunteers are already hand-feeding large numbers of kangaroo, wallaby, glider, wombat and possum joeys along with numerous species of native fledgling birds,” said Taylor. “They all come into WIRES due to injuries, displacement from their habitat or being orphaned while they are still dependent on their parents for food and warmth.”

WIRES volunteers care for these young animals until they are mature enough to fend for themselves and be released back into the wild.

According to Taylor the people of NSW are really passionate about native wildlife and WIRES couldn’t exist without their support and generosity. 

“Our organisation relies almost entirely on public funding and the general public continue to be tremendously supportive of our work rescuing native species,” said Taylor. “Any donation no matter how small makes a huge difference to our ability to successfully raise these youngsters to adulthood."
