Helping to protect vulnerable populations
Every day you help us rescue and care for distressed wildlife, but as the world becomes an ever more dangerous place for wild populations, your support is also helping us work with key partners to build up the resilience of truly vulnerable populations.
A great example of this is the Taronga Platypus Conservation Centre (the largest platypus rescue facility in Australia) for which WIRES, thanks to people like you, has provided significant funding.
The funding is helping Taronga research how environmental change like droughts impact platypus behaviour, and to establish an expert team to rescue, care for and investigate platypus breeding and climate resilience.
Our funding is also making sure the team is equipped to respond in a climate emergency, with the capacity to rescue up to 65 climate-impacted wild platypuses and care for them until conditions improve.
On behalf of the little guy above – and in hope for the future of his species – thank you so much for your support!
