WIRES' Advocacy Efforts Across Government

WIRES actively campaigns to improve policies to better protect Australian wildlife and to prevent policy changes that would have dire outcomes for native animals. Examples of successful campaigns include stopping plans for hunting in national parks, and the Wild For Life campaign preventing more native species from becoming pets.

WIRES is steadfast in its efforts at all levels of government in advocating to protect and preserve Australia's precious wildlife.

One example is the need for changes in road design to reduce significant impacts on wildlife, across multiple locations - Mona Vale Road wallabies, Wollondilly LGA wombats, kangaroos on regional roads as well as koalas along Appin Road. Road impact data and strategies for change were presented at the Australian Wildlife Rehabilitation Conference (AWRC) in Canberra.

Through strategic submissions and letters, WIRES actively engages with local, state, and federal authorities to ensure the implementation of policies that safeguard our natural heritage.

WIRES regularly puts forward submissions to the Government on issues involving the preservation of Australian wildlife and has provided evidence at parliamentary hearings. Some of them are listed below.
