Supporting Wildlife Through Veterinary Education – Introducing the WIRES Veterinary Training Hub
Australia's native wildlife faces daily threats – from vehicle strikes and habitat loss to extreme weather events and disease. Behind every successful rescue and rehabilitation is a team of passionate professionals working together to save lives – and veterinary staff are at the heart of that effort.
To further support the vital role veterinary professionals play in wildlife care, WIRES is proud to announce the launch of the WIRES Veterinary Training Hub – a dedicated online platform designed to empower veterinarians, vet nurses, vet technicians, and students with the knowledge and tools needed to confidently treat sick, injured, and orphaned native animals.
Why This Matters
Veterinary professionals are often the first line of medical care for injured wildlife brought in by carers or members of the public. Their ability to assess, stabilise, and treat native species is critical – but working with wildlife presents unique challenges that often fall outside traditional veterinary training.
In consultation with WIRES’ own wildlife vet experts, we’ve developed a comprehensive suite of free and subsidised training resources tailored specifically for those in the veterinary industry. Whether you're new to wildlife cases or looking to expand your knowledge, the hub is designed to support you every step of the way.
What's Included?
The WIRES Veterinary Training Hub offers:
Free Core Training Modules
