WIRES launches its Green Giving Program
WIRES is excited to launch the Green Giving: Foliage Donation Program — a sustainable way for arborists, landscapers, gardeners, landholders and councils to donate native foliage for wildlife in care.
Why Your Foliage Matters
A healthy, natural diet is crucial for the successful rehabilitation of native wildlife. For WIRES carers, providing omnivorous and herbivorous animals with suitable vegetation — both for food, shelter and enrichment — can be a challenging and time-consuming part of their work.
All WIRES wildlife carers are volunteers, often sourcing large quantities of native plants themselves. That’s where you can make a difference.
While our Wildlife Foodbank program helps meet dietary needs in specific regions, we’re now expanding to accept suitable foliage clippings, branches, logs, and other natural materials that would otherwise go to waste.
Turning Waste into Wildlife Support
By donating your green waste, you’re helping to:
We do ask that all donations are made thoughtfully — sustainable harvesting of native plants ensures wild populations continue to thrive too.
How You Can Donate
The Green Giving: Foliage Donation Program is currently being trialed in selected regions across New South Wales, including Sydney and surrounding areas. We’re also welcoming expressions of interest from other regions as the program grows.
