Unit of Competency Details
This unit of competency covers the process of rescuing, restraining animals and providing basic animal care.
It requires the demonstration of knowledge and skills to identify situations where assistance is required in the rescue of animals and management of animal stress and injury.
The function within this unit require the demonstration of basic operational skills and knowledge in a moderate range of areas and the application of a defined range of areas and the application of a defined range of skills, one would be expected to apply known solutions to a range of predicted problems.
Delivery Options
Online (theory session) & 3 hour workshop face-to-face (practical session)
Practical Skills Field Assessment – Mandatory
Demonstration to an experienced WIRES volunteer or Coordinator that candidate can:
- Assess the rescue situation and plan a response
- Capture and protect an animal
- Provide first aid assistance to the injured animal
