We extend our deepest respect and gratitude to the late Gay Strosnider, the late Yvonne Price, the late Hans Juergen Meyer and his mother, the late Annelise Hildegard Margo Meyer who each left legacy gifts for the long term protection of Aussie wildlife.
Read on for their inspiring stories...
Here a few words about my friend Gay Strosnider: “Gay was a long-time WIRES supporter, and was particularly concerned about the loss of habitat for native animals in urban areas. When many of the trees in her suburb were cut down to make way for units, she worried so much about the possums being left homeless that she punched a hole in the eaves of her house, so they could live in her roof! Sometimes, when we were having a cup of tea, a little face would pop out. Her friends have so many fond memories of Gay's kindness, which extended even after her death through her bequest to WIRES.” (Amanda Finch, Gay’s friend).

We are also deeply grateful to the late Yvonne Price, who left a gift to WIRES. Here, her brother Brian remembers her… “Ms Yvonne Price had an idyllic childhood, in the Manning Valley countryside where her love of animals began.
Yvonne travelled to Sydney to pursue a secretarial career, years later returning to the family home to care for her aging mother.
Through the years quite a few stray or rescued cats plus wayward birds were pampered, and on rare occasions required the services of WIRES to be called upon!” (Brian Price, Yvonne's brother).

Finally, in the words of their friend Carmen, we give thanks to an inspiring mother and son -Annelise Hildegard Margo Meyer and Hans Juergen Meyer.
“Hans Juergen Meyer, only child to Annelise Hildegard Margo Meyer, never married nor had any children. He spent a big portion of his life travelling the dusty roads of Australia, in a Jeep, with his German Shepherd, Sam.
It was a slow journey. His Jeep was driven at 40km/h so that there would be less chance to hurt any wild animal on the road.
After the loss of his mother in 2021, Hans struggled to come to terms with her death and, unfortunately, passed away before completing her last wishes, which became intertwined with his.
Anne herself was a dedicated mother who loved her son deeply. With that kind of love her gift was sown: The gift that WIRES received was combined by both mother and son, who equally shared the love of animals and those less fortunate.” (Carmen, friend of the Meyers).
