Support the Emergency Service for the wild

Every day we’re doing everything we can to assist native animals in distress, as threats to wildlife escalate.

WIRES Wildlife Rescue Service plays a vital role in protecting native animals. With a committed 24/7 wildlife rescue hotline, 4,000 trained Wildlife Volunteers, and a specialised Emergency Response Team (ERT) made up of highly skilled responders and equipped with Wildlife Ambulances, their efforts are vital for the survival of Australia's native wildlife.

Known as the "triple zero for wildlife", our WIRES Wildlife Volunteers and Emergency Responders provide urgent rescue and care; but the demand for this service is rising.

This Giving Day, we’re seeking urgent support to accelerate our frontline emergency response - answer more calls, train more volunteers, and deploy more Wildlife Ambulances with trained Emergency Responders.

Donations made on October 16th will be DOUBLED, maximising your impact to save wild lives.

ON 16 OCTOBER, DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT FOR DESPERATE WILDLIFE

We're preparing for a difficult season...

Right now, the WIRES Wildlife Rescue Office is conducting back-to-back training sessions for new phone Responders, making sure we are equipped and ready for escalating calls in the months to come.

In preparation for prolonged and deadly heat stress events, our expert bat carers are working with local councils to identify all known bat colonies and making sure local vets and bat rescuers are equipped, vaccinated and ready when extreme heat strikes.

We're meeting with government agencies to prepare for avian flu outbreaks, whilst our Emergency Responders are being equipped with new fire-ready PPE, including protective helmets, goggles, high visibility jackets, and steel-capped boots.

This is your support in action, making sure Australian native animals receive the Emergency Response they both need and deserve. On their behalf thank you!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is WIRES Giving Day?

WIRES Giving Day on October 16, 2025 is a remarkable opportunity for you to double your donation and support our 24/7 frontline Emergency Service for wildlife. Your generous donation will make sure we can continue to respond, day and night, when every minute truly counts. Every dollar you give on Thursday 16th October will be doubled, up to the matched giving total of $100,000. Once our threshold has been reached you can still donate, and your donation will still make a lifesaving difference to native animals in need, but it won't be matched.

How can I donate?

Donating is easy! On 16 October, simply visit our website: www.wires.org.au and click the Giving Day banner (you can't miss it!) to make a secure online donation.

If you register now you can be the first to know when dollar doubling opens on the day.

Can I donate prior to October 16?

We warmly welcome and appreciate all donations at any time, and all early bird donations will be counted towards the total raised. However, to have your donation matched by our generous Matched Giving partners, it must be made on WIRES Giving Day, Thursday, October 16, 2025, when dollar-doubling opens.

How is my donation doubled?

Every dollar you donate will be matched by a generous group of donors who are excited to take part in WIRES Save the Wild Giving Day. Their pledge will be activated once a donor (such as yourself!) gives an amount on the day, effectively doubling the amount you have donated. You can still give after the Matched Giving threshold has been reached (and it will still help us save wildlife!) but your donation will no longer be doubled.

Where does my donation go?

On Giving Day all donations will go towards our life-saving emergency service dedicated to the wild.

WIRES is a registered Australian charity, and we manage your donations very carefully. All gifts to WIRES $2 and over are tax-deductible within Australia. Your donation will help us fulfil our charitable mission, which is to actively rehabilitate and preserve Australian wildlife and inspire others to do the same. Giving Day donations will help us provide our 24/7 wildlife rescue services. If you’d like to discover more about how your donations are used at WIRES please visit https://www.wires.org.au/how-funds-are-used

Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes, donations $2 and over are tax deductible in Australia. You are only able to claim the amount you personally donate, and not the matched total amount. Your tax-deductible receipt will be automatically emailed to you as soon as you donate!

Why are the donations only matched up to $100,000?

This is the amount that our generous group of Matched Giving partners have committed to matching.

Who is matching my donation?

Matched Giving has been made possible thanks to the support of a generous group of Major Donors, including PB Senn Family Trust, John Hughes and our Disaster Relief Partner, Woolworths.

How can I pledge a major donation for future WIRES Giving Days, and inspire others to give more?

If you would like to pledge a Matched Giving donation for a future WIRES Giving Day and which will be used to inspire others to give more, please contact Brooke Taylor at: philanthropy@wires.org.au

What if I want to donate via a bank transfer?

Please reach out to our Supporter Care team on info@wires.org.au and they will email you our bank details. However, please note that due to varying processing times among banks, we cannot guarantee that donations made through bank transfers will be matched if they occur after the matching period.

How can I promote WIRES Giving Day?

We'd love for you to help spread the word of WIRES Giving Day with your friends, family, and workmates via your usual social channels!

You can simply share this Giving Day page with your friends and family!
