Olive was rescued by our volunteer Tanya after she was struck by a speeding car. She had multiple broken bones in her face and blood in her lungs.
Tanya transported her for urgent specialist vet care, where she underwent intensive surgery, including the necessary removal of her left eye.
Few expected her to survive, which was all the sadder when they realised she had a tiny joey in her pouch.
But Olive was a fighter. She was returned to our volunteer Tanya, where she and her little joey Ollie have spent months receiving specialist care in our purpose-built enclosure, along with the critical formula she needs to build up her health and strength.
Your gift this Giving Day will make sure distressed native animals like Olive and Ollie receive the urgent rescue and dedicated care they need, for a second chance of life in the wild.

24/7 Critical Rescue – You'll be making sure our Wildlife Rescue Office is open 24 hours a day, coordinating thousands of urgent rescues every week.
Specialist Care & Rehabilitation – You'll be supporting WIRES volunteers with expert training, wildlife food, specialist equipment and enclosures, making sure as many rescued animals as possible get their second chance of life in the wild.
Emergency Response Teams - Your gift will support our full-time Emergency Responders, each equipped with a fully-stocked Wildlife Ambulance across NSW, and in Queensland and Tasmania.
