Branch Description

The Wollondilly branch of WIRES is located within the Wollondilly Shire and provides animal rescue, rehabilitation and education on the native animals living within the Wollondilly Local Government Area. We are made up of dedicated and passionate volunteers who strive to offer 24/7 rescue for all our beloved native animals.

We are very proud to have several members with over 20 years experience in caring for the native animals of the Wollondilly Shire and we have members trained to handle all species of native animal in distress, including snakes, bats, macropods, small mammals, wombats, birds and possums.

Please note never attempt to approach or handle a Bat, flying fox, snake or raptor (bird of prey) or large macropods as these animals require special training to handle. Please use caution and call WIRES any time for assistance.

We service all of the Wollondilly Shire and often also offer assistance to our neighbouring branches of Macarthur, Cumberland, Blue Mountains and Wingecarrabie.

Wollondilly has quite a few special species within its boundaries, including the grey-headed flying-fox colony at Picton, The koala colony at Appin and known sightings of several other threatened species like the Parma Wallaby.

WIRES Wollondilly branch relies heavily on community donations which goes directly to helping our local native animals.
