Possum Partners

Tuesday, May 31, 2016

Image thanks GEO GroupA unique partnership between the Junee Correctional Centre, TAFE NSW Riverina Institute and WIRES will result in orphaned and injured Brushtail possums being released back into the wild with a greater chance of survival.

Ellen is the Small Mammal Coordinator in WIRES Riverina and she has an amazing level of commitment to the welfare of wildlife.

The possum partnership continued with Wagga Wagga City Council and the Green Army program installing boxes upstream and downstream from the Murrumbidgee River Beach.

Sadly the beach site is a favourite dumping ground for possums removed from urban roof cavities and consequently there has been a significant number of stress related injuries and illness in the possum population there that have been brought to WIRES attention.
