Long journey for young turtle

Sunday, April 25, 2010

This newly hatched Macquarie turtle went on a very long journey for one so young. The turtle was found on the floor in the toilets of a Macksville service station, no bigger than a 50c piece. The truck driver who found it thought someone would step on it so he thought he'd call WIRES. Unfortunately he called WIRES at the end of his journey in Sydney and it went into the care of Kerry in the north shore branch.

The turtle had to be released back into its own territory so Kerry found a WIRES member who came to Sydney regularly from Lismore and sent the turtle back with her to the Northern Rivers branch of WIRES where it went into care before release.

Animals always have to be released back into their own area so WIRES asks people who find an animal, not to transport it away from the local area but if they posssibly can to find a wildlife carer before they leave. To help WIRES fund rescues like this you can now donate online. Read more WIRES rescue stories?
