Training Courses Print E-mail

In NSW no person is allowed to care for native animals without an annual authority to act issued under the licence held by WIRES or another licenced wildlife rehabilitation organisation or by a privately licenced individual.   You must be over 18 to attend a WIRES training course.

WIRES training courses provide an understanding of how animals become injured and come into our care. Courses are held at locations throughout NSW, generally between February and November.

To find out when the next courses in your area are to be run, check out the training course schedule below.

Please note that where there is high demand for training courses and numbers are limited, priority will be given to those who reside within the branch area running the course. If this is the case and you live outside the branch area you may be referred to a future training course at your local branch.

Note: Some branches run information sessions prior to the rescue and immediate care course. In some branches you must attend the information session to be eligible to enrol in the training course.

Scheduled Rescue and Immediate Care Courses

Training courses for 2012 will be shown as they are scheduled. Please check here for courses in your area.

Specialist Courses

WIRES also runs specialist courses which are only available to existing members of WIRES who have completed a rescue and immediate care course and been actively involved with animal care.

These courses are sometimes open to members of other wildlife rescue groups who have completed training courses and already hold a NPWS Licence or members of other rescue organizations who  require specialist animal handling skills in emergency situations. If you are interested in obtaining further information about our specialist courses please
email us, including details of the specialist area you are interested in, your completed training and licence number or the name of your rescue organisation.

For WIRES members a complete list of advanced training courses is available on the members site which can be reached by following links to member login.
