Very young koala joey in care

Every year around 3,000 native animals will spend their Summer with us.

Many will require around the clock feeding and intensive treatments. That means we will have scores of volunteer carers juggling precious family time with the very demanding job of nursing their precious charges.

One special character who recently found his way into WIRES care is a very young koala joey, WIRES incident number 713435 – alias Matari!  He was found alone in a suburban back yard.

After veterinary treatment little Matari was taken into specialist care with WIRES – all 12 months of it, before we hope he will be safely released back into the wild.

Not only our volunteers will be working every day these summer holidays - our Call Centre will operate every single day so that concerned people like you can contact us whenever a native animal is in distress.

With your continued help all these amazing rescues can take place. But without your help, they won’t.

Don’t forget the injured and orphaned wildlife spending Summer with us
