World Wildlife Day 2021 – Celebrating wildlife and wildlife carers

Wednesday, March 3, 2021

Wednesday 3rd of March is World Wildlife Day and we want to encourage our community to celebrate and protect Australia's incredible native biodiversity. Take a moment today to consider our unique animals and wild places.

Australia is home to thousands of unique and varied species which are increasingly at risk.

WIRES knows all too well the impact that our activities as humans are having on wildlife. Our volunteers give their time 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to help sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. Some of the world’s most charismatic species, as well as lesser-known but ecologically important plants and animals, are in immediate danger of extinction. WIRES has been rescuing and caring for wildlife for over 35 years and our mission is to actively rehabilitate and preserve Australian wildlife and inspire others to do the same. For our volunteers, every day is wildlife day.

This month marks 35 years of WIRES volunteers making a direct impact on the lives of our native wildlife daily. This World Wildlife Day we want to not only celebrate our wildlife but also the incredible carers who use their time and knowledge to care for Australian animals every day.

Check-in on our social media through the month to learn about the history of WIRES and what we are doing now to build a sustainable future for Australia’s precious wildlife. By looking forward and looking back, we hope to share with you success stories and our plan for Restoration, Rescue and Rehabilitation over the next few years.
